A collection of square wood pavers arranged in a grid pattern, showcasing the natural wood grain and ends.

ORCA Wood Pavers are crafted from Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), a deciduous hardwood tree native to the Appalachian mountains. Fast-growing and extremely durable, Black Locust is the most rot-resistant hardwood native to North America, a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwoods commonly used in outdoor projects.

Wood Pavers allow for flexible and permeable paving installations. Installed end grain facing up, Wood Pavers expose the tight-grain quality of the tree’s heartwood, a decay-resistant material that can last upwards of thirty years.

The concentric lines of tree rings add a sense of groundedness to gardens and driveways, patios and paths. As the case with all ORCA pavers, joints between the material improve soil and garden health by allowing water and oxygen to flow underground and reach plant roots.

Samples are sold by the individual paver.

FAQ

What are ORCA pavers made from?

ORCA clay pavers are made from locally sourced California clay and recycled aggregate materials. They are pressed and fired at high temperatures to create a dense, durable surface. By sourcing materials close to the manufacturing site, ORCA reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation.

Are ORCA pavers permeable?

Yes. When sand-set over a compacted gravel sub-base, ORCA clay pavers are inherently permeable. Water passes through the joints and infiltrates the soil below, replenishing natural aquifers, supporting plant root health, and reducing stormwater runoff, and making them a sustainable alternative to poured concrete.

Can ORCA clay pavers be used for driveways?

Our pavers are rated for pedestrian and patio use. For driveway-grade applications, contact our studio for a paver consultation at hello@orcaliving.com.

What maintenance do clay pavers require?

Clay pavers require minimal maintenance. Sweep or blow off debris regularly and rinse with water as needed. Re-sand joints with decomposed granite or polymeric sand every few years as material settles. Avoid close-range power washing, which can displace joint material. No chemical treatments or sealants are needed.

Can pavers be used indoors?

Yes, tile and split brick formats are great for use indoors when they are mortared to a substrate and pointed with grout. Clay tiles can be used in indoor showers when proper care is taken for good drainage and drying between uses. A clay masonry sealant with antimicrobial agents can be useful for bathroom and kitchen applications.

How are ORCA pavers shipped?

Pavers ship on pallets via freight carrier. A shipping quote will be coordinated after your order is placed. Please ensure your delivery site has accessible, level vehicle access for freight delivery. For large or custom-quantity orders, contact hello@orcaliving.com before ordering.
