terrazzo clay umber title

Terrazzo Clay tiles have a ground-down finish to expose and highlight the constellation of aggregates within. A smooth surface with textural interest, Terrazzo Clay tiles honor the sedimentary origins of clay and its throughbody color. Ideal for outdoor pathways, landscape patios, retaining walls, and interior application. Made in California.

The tile format is suited for mortaring to a solid substrate. Also available in a paver size for sand-set applications. All materials in our Terrazzo Clay collection are rated for freeze thaw conditions.

Note that this finish has a single face; inform your installer to lay the terrazzo finish face up. After installation, we recommend sealing the pavers with a penetrating, colorless, matte sealant to enhance their color and textural details.

FAQ

Can ORCA tiles be installed in showers, bathrooms, or kitchens?

Yes, ORCA tile formats can be used in wet areas such as showers, bathroom floors, and kitchens. They should be installed with the correct waterproofing, slope, and slip‑resistance strategy for the space. A clay masonry sealant with antimicrobial agents can be useful for bathroom and kitchen applications.

What grout and joint width do you recommend for clay tile installations?

Recommended grout and joint width depend on the tile format, layout, and whether the installation is interior or exterior. As a general guideline, tighter joints emphasize a more monolithic look and wider joints highlight the handmade variation of clay.

Can ORCA tiles be installed over existing concrete or masonry surfaces?

ORCA tiles can be installed over sound, properly prepared concrete or masonry substrates when movement, moisture, and adhesion are correctly addressed. You should always evaluate the existing surface, correct any cracks or instability, and select installation materials that are compatible with both the substrate and the clay tile.

Are there special considerations for using clay tiles around a fireplace or stove?

High fired clay tiles can be used around fireplaces and stoves. For interior fireplace or stove applications, ORCA recommends our high-fired fire brick in either full size or split size, depending on the design, layout, and installation needs.

Are ORCA clay tiles suitable for indoor floors and walls?

Yes. ORCA clay tiles can be used on both interior floors and walls when they’re installed over a properly prepared substrate. They bring the same natural tone and texture indoors so you can create a continuous feeling between interior rooms and exterior spaces.

Do ORCA tiles need to be sealed, and how does sealing change maintenance?

For outdoor clay tile installations, ORCA usually does not recommend sealing. Leaving the tile unsealed allows the surface to breathe, age naturally, and develop a patina over time. In high-traffic or wet areas, we recommend using a high quality sealer. You can email hello@orcaliving.com for our recommendations.
